What could you do as a volunteer in ELIM?
The presence of volunteers is already of an important account. Everyone and any help is welcome. For a short or long period, Spanish or non-Spanish speaking, for ELIM’s children, it isn’t a problem. They enjoy everything and are interested in everybody.
Certainly we really appreciate when a volunteer is showing initiative. You could help in many ways, support and have fun with the children. You could do the following:
-
Help do their homework
-
Organize individual or group lessons on some school subjects or others. For example mathematics or English
-
Because of the different levels, individual support is also very important, therefore one to one lessons could be considered
-
You could also organize lessons close to your own profession, this could be something.
-
Organize creative activities, both boys and girls really enjoy this
-
Play games or sports
-
Organize an excursion or bring in some financial help for possible trips organized by ELIM
-
Support in a material way by buying for example school materials like exercise books, pencils, kitchen needs, clothes or health products)
-
You could also help in any other way
-
After working in ELIM you will leave definitely with new skills and knowledge. The children are very talented in many ways. Some of them dance, some play ‘zampoña’ (panpipes) and guitar and others are specialists in making typical Peruvian bracelets or know much of the Peruvian history. And each of them is willing to teach you their skills.
-
Moreover the majority of the boys possess excellent football skills and they would love to share them with you. That’s how everybody is learning something from each other!
Also the perfect way to learn or improve your knowledge of the Spanish language, is spending time and playing with the kids.
Volunteering on professional areaAny help on a specific area is welcome, on a short and a long term basis. Think about singing, dancing and acting lessons. Or drawing and painting. Boys and girls are very creative, competitive and always willing to learn something new. Also on the medical side every support is welcome. Unfortunately the children have many psychological or physical problems, whereby we receive all help with open arms
Vrijwilligers kluswerkzaamheden
